Candle Care Guide

Candle Care Guide

Candle care is important to ensure safety, optimal burning, and longevity of your candles. Here are some general instructions for taking care of your candles:

Trim the Wick:

  • Before lighting a candle, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch & incase of wooden wick, trim the wick to about 1/8 inch in length. This helps prevent excessive smoking and ensures a clean, even burn.

First Burn:

  • Allow the candle to burn long enough for the entire surface to become a pool of melted wax. This helps prevent tunnelling ( burning pattern where the wax melts down the center) and sets the stage for an even burn in the future. Wooden wicks might take a bit longer than traditional wicks. The first burn is crucial for the subsequent performance of the candle.

Burn Time:

  • Do not burn a candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Extinguish the flame, let the candle cool, trim the wick, and then relight if desired.

Keep the Wax Pool Clean:

  • Remove debris, like wick trimmings or matches, from the wax pool. This helps maintain a clean and even burn. A consistently low flame may suggest the wick is too short or there is debris in the wax pool.

Use a Snuffer:

  • Instead of blowing out a candle, use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame. Blowing can cause hot wax to splatter.

Positioning:

  • Place candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Keep them away from flammable materials and out of reach of children. And do not leave a burning candle unattended.

Avoid Over burning:

  • Don't burn candles all the way down to the bottom of the container. Stop using the candle when about 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) of wax remains.

Storage:

  • Store candles in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight to prevent color fading and melting. Storing candles for too long can affect the scent, so use your candle in a reasonable time to make the most of its beautiful fragrance.

Avoid High Flames:

  • If the flame becomes too high, extinguish the candle, let it cool, trim the wick, and then relight. High flames can be a safety hazard.

Avoid Drafts:

  • Keep candles away from drafts, as they can cause uneven burning, smoking, or dripping. Adjust the candle's placement to minimize drafts.

Follow Manufacturer's Guidelines:

  • Always refer to the manufacturer's guidelines for specific recommendations on wick trimming, burn times, and flame behaviour for the particular type of candle you are using.
